A Segerstrom High School basketball coach has been arrested on suspicion of having a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old student-athlete. Tracey Stephan Fulford, now 52, allegedly began the relationship with the student when she was only16. The relationship allegedly spanned 3 years, continuing past her high school graduation.. The woman , who is now 19-yearsold, recently went to Santa Ana police to report the inappropriate relationship, despite stating that she felt discouraged by school officials.
Working with the district for 37 years, Fulford was a walk-on basketball and track and field coach and therefore did not teach in the classroom. District officials stated that walk-on staffers are still subject to the same strict screening process as other staff, including but not limited to federal, state, and local background checks. This case is currently under investigation, as well as the allegations thatthe staff failed to follow regulations that required reporting the incident to police or school administrators.
Fulford faces a $50,000 bond and is being held on suspicion of child molestation, lewd conduct, and distributing harmful matter to a child. Santa Ana police and Crime Stoppers are asking anyone with additional information on this case or other alleged victims to step forward, anonymously if you so choose.
