Today, in a positive step towards making California's public entities safe for children and vulnerable adults, the California State Senate voted 33 to 4 to pass Senate Bill 1530, which makes it easier to remove teachers accused of engaging in misconduct.
Drafted in the wake of the Miramonte Elementary School childhood sexual abuse scandal, the proposal streamlines the process for removal of teachers accused of engaging in misconduct by removing the impediments that stopped public entities from removing such accused individuals in the past.
SB 1530 now moves on to the Assembly for review and vote. Manly & Stewart represents several child victims of sexual assaults at Miramonte and other California public schools.
